Privacy
Omacus has no account, no ads and no analytics, and your sheets never leave your device unless you share them. This page lists everything Omacus sends over the network, and why.
The desktop app
- Your sheets are plain text files in a folder on your computer (see where files live). They are never uploaded.
- Exchange rates. Omacus downloads the latest rates from open.er-api.com at most every 12 hours while you use it, and keeps them on disk so currency math works offline. The request carries nothing from your sheets.
- Checking for updates. Omacus asks GitHub for the latest version number when it starts (at most once an hour) and every 4 hours while it's open. Put
check_for_updates = falseinsettings.tomlto turn that off. A new version is downloaded, from GitHub, only when you choose Update now or runomacus update. - Nothing else. No telemetry, no crash reports, no usage statistics.
The web app
- Your sheets are saved in your browser's storage, on that device. They are never sent to omacus.com or anywhere else. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes them, so export a copy (⋯ menu) if they matter.
- Exchange rates come from the same source as the desktop app, kept in the browser for 12 hours.
- The app itself is downloaded from omacus.com and cached so it works offline.
Share links
A share link carries the sheet inside it, compressed into the part after the #. Browsers never send that part to a server, so omacus.com doesn't receive your sheet when someone opens the link.
Anyone who has the link can read the sheet, so treat it like the sheet itself. Chat apps that show link previews may store the whole link on their servers.
This website
omacus.com is static pages, hosted on GitHub Pages behind Cloudflare. Like any host, they handle your IP address and a log of requests to serve the pages. Cloudflare counts visits without cookies. There are no cookies, ads or third-party trackers, and the fonts are served from omacus.com itself.
Terms
Omacus is free and open source under the MIT license, which is the whole agreement: use it for anything, and it comes as is, without warranty. Double-check numbers that matter, such as taxes, invoices and medicine doses, and remember that exchange rates are a day's mid-market rate, not what your bank charges.
Changes and questions
If what Omacus sends ever changes, this page changes first; its history is public in the source repository. Questions are welcome as a GitHub issue.
